This is a full time one year Diploma course affiliated with the SNDT Women's University, whereby the course is recognized and accredited since 1993.  Medium of instruction is English. Minimum qualification required is H.S.C. ang there is no age bar. The course has theory, practicals and educational tours. This job-oriented, vocational course empowers women, besides introducing them to many scientific concepts like child development, nutrition, health, hygiene and environment.  The academic year is from June to April.  Applications are invited during April-May.  For more information contact IWSA office at and  022 27661806.

Requirement for Admission  :

Two  photo copies of

  • S.S.C or Equivalent  - passing certificate and mark-list.
  • Marriage Certificate, if name is different in SSC certificate & in the application .
  • 4 copies of colour passport size photographs. (Bring original CERTIFICATE AND MARKLIST at the time of interview).
  • Application form dually filled in.
  • Statement of purpose -  Write in your own words (not more than 500 words) why you  want to do this course.

Science Awareness / Personality Development Camps for students

To promote scientific temper among school children and teachers, various workshops are conducted by IWSA, specially for weaker sections of the society. To mention a few workshops held in the past, the emphasis was on how to make science interesting, small scientific experiments and hands-on- experience to children and teachers.

April 2006

Three days workshop for 40 children of B. M. Ashram, Koparkhairane. Training Workshops/ Camps for Pre-Primary and Primary Teachers. Attempts are to conduct special training workshops for teachers teaching in Marathi schools or schools affiliated to the NMMC.

August  2006

3 days teacher refresher course for 25 Primary Teachers of NMMC schools, with focus on language development, teaching aids  to make science and maths interesting, nutrition awareness.

October 2006

Three day workshop for 52 pre-primary teachers of NMMC. Emphasis was on preparation of low cost teaching aids, with use of waste materials.

August 2008

Workshop on "Learning Disabilities" for the primary school teachers of Navi Mumbai Municipal schools.  

February 2008 

Outreach programme: Teaching aid kits were made and donated to following nursery schools run by Mobile crèche: Samata, Nutan Mahila Mandal.

December 2010

Nirmala Niketan story telling competition was held on the 10th & 11th December, 2010 and over 22 institutions took part. Dr. Kamini Rege, the convener of the competition, gave an opportunity to teachers and trainees to bring out their hidden talent and polish their skills.
Nine trainees from IWSA took part in the story telling competition. One group dramatization was based on “The Cap seller and the Monkeys”. Ashwini narrated a story “Apne Apne Vishesta” in Hindi and Smisha and Shilpa dramatized on “Do good and good will come back to you”. All our three categories won prizes. “The Cap seller and the Monkeys” won the first prize for the story as well as for the “Best Coordination.” Ashwini won for the “Most Effective Body Language”. Smisha & Shilpa won for the Best story for “Value Education”.

Science workshop (in Marathi) for NMMC teachers was organized on 6th and 7th January. The theme of the workshop was “iva&ana:AanaMddayal AnauBava”.

February 2012 

National conference was organized by ECA-on “21st Century, Transformations and Challenges”. Ms. Tejaswini Patil presented a paper on “Nurturing healthy food habits in early childhood”.

February 2012

Mr. Rajeev Tambe: “Simple Teaching Aids”. The first talk was about nutrition and health where interesting games were arranged for the participants to learn basics about nutrients & their functions. Teachers were also taught to make very simple teaching-aids. Secondly, Dr S. Nayak, IWSA member and her team gave information about harmful and helpful bacteria and demonstrated blood groups and blood cells like RBCs and neutrophils. Shri Gajanan Patil, Consumer Society of India demonstrated simple ways to detect food adulteration using lime juice and paper.
On the second day, first session opened by Prof R. Keskar, who is passionate about mathematics and teaches mathematics through Origami. Keskar’s down to earth approach and addressing all the problems was commendable by the participants. Participants learnt to enjoy maths than being scared and as Keskar mentioned they had fallen in love with mathematics.
