XII All India meeting of Women in Science - National Conference on “Current trends in Science & Technology” (CTST) organized by IWSA, Pune branch

Date:28-30 November, 2013

The conference was for 2 ½ days. There were about 150 delegates in all. Invited talks were 13 in number and covered all aspects of science & technology from lithium batteries conservation of river waters, waste water technology, genomic improvement in plants, meta-material antennas, e-governance to  reach the unreached, radio protectors to physical activity and health.


Mangalyaan Rocket Workshop on Children's Day

To celebrate the successful take - off of the Mangalyaan and celebrate Chacha Nehru's birthday on 14th Nov, 2013, Indian Women Scientists' Association in collaboration with TechShiksha Science Club was  organized a “Mangalyaan workshop” for children. In the workshop, children built Air Rockets and launched them using Air Pressure. Children attending this Workshop learnt about Rockets, shape of Rockets, payload capacity and ballistic projectile.


Eco-Friendly Ganesh Workshop

The workshop, emphasised on the need to be environment friendly and encouraged the use of eco friendly materials, clay, natural colours, use of fresh flowers, fallen leaves etc.

Commissioning of Nisargruna Biogas demo plant

IWSA had taken up a new project “Wealth not Waste”. It has two aspects, first to create awareness about the segregation of dry & wet waste material in the society and secondly to install a solid waste treatment demo plant of “Nisargruna” at IWSA campus.


World Environment Day at IWSA

Date: 5th June, 2013

World Environment Day was celebrated on the 5th June with Day Care children. Nursery Teachers and TOT trainee natured a story on trees and their importance in our lives. Saplings were distributed to all children parents. Children were taken around the campus by IWSA members and information was given to them about various plants. Parents of few children attended the programme.


IWSA- 40 years and the Road Ahead

The Indian Women Scientists’ Association (IWSA) completed 40 years on 13th June, 2013.Four decades is a long time in the life of an organization. Should we sit back in the glory of the past achievements or should we be critical of ourselves and see how we can improve on what we have already done. It is indeed a time for retrospection. With this in mind our President and members of the EC decided to meet and through a Panel discussion invite ideas on the way forward. The Foundation day was celebrated on Satd. 15th June 2013.


“Wealth not Waste” project

Date: Saturday, 9th March 2013
All the biodegradable kitchen waste generated at IWSA hostel is treated on campus using a biogas plant installed and commissioned in 2013. This Nisargruna plant is based on the technology developed at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Mumbai and installed by M/s Avani Enterprises, Mumbai. The biogas generated is piped back to our hostel kitchen and the manure to our garden. All the glass/metal/paper material is recycled leaving our campus “zero garbage” campus


Refresher Course 2013

Indian Women Scientists’ Association organized Science Academies’ Refresher Course on 'Advances in Plant and Animal Biotechnology' in collaboration with Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. The Course was held from February 3 – 16, 2013 and was spread over a few institutions in Mumbai viz. IWSA, Vashi; ACTREC, Kharghar; Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi; Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Belapur; NIRRH, Parel and Sophia College for women, Mumbai.


Rainbow 2013

Date: 1st to 3rd March, 2013
IWSA’s Teaching Aids’ Exhibition in Vashi – Rainbow 2013 was organized from 1st to 3rd March, 2013. This was 17thyear of the exhibition which was based on Nature – Air, Land and Water themes. The exhibition was put up by IWSA’s trainee teachers. IWSA conducts a diploma course in “Nursery/Crèche Teachers Training” affiliated to SNDT Women’s University. The teaching aids were supported by a puppet show – ‘TukTukkiDuniya’ and a drama – ‘what an idea Rajaji!’ to create awareness regarding pollution & how to save our mother earth

Teaching aid exhibition is a unique way of showcasing trainee’s work which they learn throughout the year. Their journals on origami, paper crumpling, collage montaze, crayon and wet painting are on display. Their projects on visual discrimination, E.V.S., maths reading, science awareness and various teaching aids are also exhibited in Rainbow 2012 which teachers, parents and children are enjoying.
