"Analytical Instruments Touching your life"

IWSA in collaboration with Chemistry department of Sophia college for women conducted a popular science lecture at Sophia college auditorium on 28th July at 10.30 am. Dr G Ramakrishnan, President Chromatographic Society of India delivered a popular science lecture on "Analytical Instruments Touching your life". He covered various techniques that are used in chemical analyses to assure a better environment to live. He spoke in detail on various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques that are used in analyses of water, food,  fuels, essential oils etc. He also touched upon how the techniques have wide applications in Forensic sciences, doping, food  adulteration etc. Dr Ramakrishnan also brought  columns used in HPLC and GC, which generated lot of interest in students. Dr Susan Eapen, Member , Board of Trustees, IWSA spoke on the efforts of IWSA to inculcate scientific temper among student population. Dr Ignatius Mendes, HOD, Chemistry department spoke about the various activities of the College and appreciated IWSA's efforts to popularize science.The lecture was attended by about 80 students. This was followed by a poster competition on chromatography and winners were awarded prizes.

"Science Academies' Lecture Workshop on "OMICS"


A two day lecture workshop sponsored and supported by the three  National Science Academies - Indian Academy of Sciences (Bengaluru), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi) and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Allahabad) on ‘OMICS: Basics and Applications’ was held on 8 - 9 July 2017 at Indian Women Scientists’ Association, Sector 10-A, Dr. Mar Theophilus Road, Vashi, Navi Mumbai 400703. Dr. Rita Mulherkar, Fellow NASI was Course Convenor and Dr. Susan Eapen, Member, Board of Trustees, IWSA was Course Co-ordinator.

"Stem Cells: Basics and their role in regeneration medicine"

A popular science lecture was delivered at K. J. Somaiya College of Science & Commerce, Vidya Vihar, Mumbai on 16th Septemeber, 2016 at 10.00 am by Dr. Prathibha Shetty, Principal Scientist, Reliance Life Sciences, Mumbai on “Stem Cells: Basics and their role in regeneration medicine.”

Dr. K. Z. Marolia, Head, Biotechnology Department of K. J. Somiya College welcomed the gathering and Dr. Susan Eapen, Trustee, IWSA spoke about the various activities of IWSA and the need to motivate students to take up science as a career. About 100 undergraduate and post-graduate students attended the program and there was an active discussion. The lecture generated lot of interest among the students.


"Molecular Symmetry and Point Groups"

A popular science lecture was conducted on 18th June, 2016 at 9.30 am at the SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sion Mumbai on the topic “Molecular Symmetry and Point Groups” by Dr. Dimple Dutta, Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai. The audience including B.Sc and M.SC students actively participated in the discussion which followed.


"National Technology Day "

On the occasion of National Technology Day, IWSA conducted the following lectures in collaboration with Mumbai University at Virtual Class Room,  Phirozha Mehta Bhavan, University of Mumbai, Kalina, Mumbai on 10th May, 2016 from 9.30 am onwards.Light based technologies - for existence and exploration” - Dr. Dhanya Suresh, Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai.“Environment-friendly adaptation of water treatment technologies suitable for rural and coastal areas” - Ms. Saly T. Panicker, Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai.“Hydrogen technology for meeting future demands” - Dr. Shyamala Bharadwaj, Former Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai.“Agricultural Biotechnology: For food, feed and environmental security” - Dr. Susan Eapen, Former Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai. Dr. Devaki Ramanathan, President, IWSA spoke about the various activities of IWSA and its efforts to take science to society. These lectures were attended by 50 students from all over Maharashtra and were well appreciated.

"Udan-skill development of Balwadi Teachers"

14th – 16th January, 2016

A skill development training workshop was conducted for 20 teachers of CORP (Community Outreach programme). CORP has been working with underprivileged communities. It was an unique and holistic programme aimed at developing attitude, skills and knowledge, which is necessary while you work with young children as well as to update and upgrade to modern improved teaching methods.
