Glimpses From Past Triennials

Navi Mumbai

A hub for educational institutions, shopping centres and sightseeing.

Welcome to the planned green satellite city of Mumbai—Navi Mumbai!

This planned urban township of Mumbai was developed in 1972 and has a lot to offer. The city has evolved over the years to achieve the best infrastructure. Separated from Mumbai by a section of the Arabian Sea, Navi Mumbai lies across the Thane Creek and connects smoothly by road and rail.

It was built on a nodal pattern to minimize travel distances.  Vashi, Belapur, Nerul and Kharghar are popular nodes which brim with restaurants, cafes, shopping plazas, and botanical gardens.

The city boasts of broad roads and spacious parking lots. The city has a modern state-of-the-art Software Park of India (Millennium Business Park). Industrial and IT parks are mainly located in the areas of Vashi, Airoli and Belapur.

Indian Women Scientists’ Association is located in Vashi which is one of the nodes of Navi Mumbai.

Close to IWSA, a stroll at the Mini Seashore should kickstart your day. Delve in the natural environment by relaxing in many of its gardens.  Visit the mangrove forests of Navi Mumbai and get a glimpse of our regular visitors-the birds and butterflies.

Kharghar is the educational node of Navi Mumbai. Nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains at Kharghar is the State-of-the-Art, Research & Development wing of Tata Memorial Centre named ACTREC (Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer). Kharghar again boasts of its gothic-style landmark – the Utsav Chowk located not too far from the Kharghar golf course.

Enjoy IWSA’s Triennial Conference with a mix of these leisure activities and perhaps extend your stay in Navi Mumbai.
