IWSA’s Scholarship Awards for Science Education (2025–2026)

About the Scholarships

Keeping with Indian Women Scientists’ Association’s (IWSA) mandate to motivate and empower young women to pursue higher education and build successful careers in science, IWSA awards one-time scholarships annually to deserving girl students.

These scholarships are made possible through the generous support of IWSA members, donors, sponsors and well-wishers.

Scholarships are awarded on a merit-cum-means basis to eligible girl students pursuing:

  • Science (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.)
  • Paramedical Courses
  • In house Computer Courses
  • In house ECCE course

Applications are invited through website and notifications are circulated to educational institutions across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai for B.Sc., M.Sc. and paramedical scholarships, and across Maharashtra for Ph.D. scholarships in the months of July- September.

🎓 Scholarships for B.Sc. Students

Eligibility

  • Girl students pursuing B.Sc. (First, Second, or Third Year)
  • Annual family income below ₹ 3,00,000

Awards

  1. IWSA Awards for B.Sc
  2. Shantoo Gurnani – IWSA Merit-cum-Means Award
      • Financial and merit-based assistance for deserving students.

  3. Sadanand Kale Memorial – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Mr. Umesh Kale in memory of his father.

  4. Leela Bansiya – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Mr. Jagdish Bansiya in memory of his mother.
      • Exclusively reserved for a meritorious Third Year B.Sc. (T.Y.B.Sc.) student.

  5. Prof. K. Kelkar – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Mr. Jayant Kelkar in memory of his father.

  6. Chetan Premani Memorial – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Dr. Nootan Bhakal and Mr. Ketan Premani.

  7. Late Dr. Leela Mulherkar – IWSA Award
    • Instituted by Dr. Rita Mulherkar in memory of her aunt.
  • 🎓 Scholarships for M.Sc. Students

Eligibility

  1. Girl students pursuing M.Sc. in any science subject (1st and 2nd year)
  2. Annual family income below ₹4,00,000

Awards

  1. IWSA Awards for M.Sc.
      • General scholarship awards designated for female students pursuing their Master of Science. 

  2. Chetan Premani Memorial – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Dr. Nootan Bhakal and Mr. Ketan Premani in memory of their brother. 

  3. Mrs. Rajam K. Memorial – IWSA Award
    • Instituted by Dr. Devaki Ramanathan in memory of her mother.
  •  Scholarships for Ph.D. Students

Eligibility

  • Girl students registered for Ph.D. in any field of science
  • Applicants should have completed minimum one year after registration
  • Annual family income not exceeding ₹8,00,000

Awards

    1. Late Dr. Jayashree Daoo – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Major Vikram Daoo in memory of his mother.
      • For a meritorious student pursuing a Ph.D. in any field of science.
    2. Late Dr. Sumati and Mr. Vasudeo Bhide – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Prof. Amar Bhide in memory of his parents.
      • For a meritorious student pursuing a Ph.D. in any field of science.
    3. Late Dr. Suresh Mahajan – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Dr. Vaibhav Sanzgiri in memory of his M.S. and Ph.D. guide, Dr. S.K. Mahajan.
      • Specifically for a Ph.D. student in Life Sciences.
      • The award will also carry a citation and a trophy.
    4. Late Savitribai and Shri Datta B.S. Zingde – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by the Zingde Family.
      • For a Ph.D. student in any science discipline.
    5. Late Mrs. A Visalakshi Memorial – IWSA Award
      • Instituted by Mr. Srinivasan Ramanathan in memory of his grandmother.
      • Specifically for a Ph.D. student in Physics.

🩺 Scholarship for Paramedical Courses

Eligibility

  • Girl students pursuing a paramedical course
  • Annual family income below ₹3,00,000

Award

Late Madhukar Dattatreya Vaidya – IWSA Award

  • Instituted by Mr. Abhay Vaidya and Dr. Sunita Mahajan.

Awards for Inhouse ECCE Course

  1. IWSA awards
  2. Late Dr. Hemachandra Pradhan – IWSA Award
  • Instituted by Mrs. Sushama Pradhan in the memory of her husband.
  • Specifically for the topper of IWSA – ECCE course.

Important Note

All decisions made by the IWSA Scholarship Committee regarding selection and award allocation are final and binding.

All award recipients receive an official IWSA certificate.
